HOSPERSA ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE NORTHERN CAPE

Hospersa in the Northern Cape Province elected new Provincial Office Bearers at its Provincial congress held in Kimberley on 6 and 7 February 2018. The Union in the province also adopted key resolutions to tackle during the next five years in its efforts of fighting for improved working conditions of its members.

The newly elected office bearers will remain in office for a period of five years, carrying the union’s flag in the Northern Cape. The following portfolios were filled: Paul Gras (Provincial Chairperson), Heinrich Koopman (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – Structures and Recruitment), Dennis Segano (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – HIV/Aids and Gender), Hendriena Coetzee (Provincial Vice-Chairperson – Education and Training) and Wainne Naidoo (Provincial Treasurer). Aside from the elections, key resolutions were adopted by the delegates which were made up of over fifty shop stewards representing members from various public health and social development institutions in the Northern Cape province.

“We congratulate the new leaders elected during the provincial congress,” said André Harmse, Hospersa Northern Cape Provincial Secretary. “The new leaders will look to take aim at improving the working conditions of our members as well as building a strong worker-led trade union in the province. The resolutions taken by the delegates will pave a way for vigorous efforts in addressing the many problems faced by our members in the province emanating from gross violations of Occupation Health and Safety, shortages of staff as well as maladministration and corruption,” concluded Harmse.
