Empowering Change: A Glimpse into Hospersa's National Congress
At Hospersa, our commitment to advocating for workers’ rights and fostering a fair and just labor environment is unwavering. To achieve this, we operate within a robust democratic structure, and at the heart of it lies the National Congress.
What is the National Congress? The National Congress is the supreme governing body of our union, convened every five years. Chaired by the President, it brings together dedicated delegates from Hospersa branches, with representation determined by the National Executive Committee (NEC). Leading up to the National Congress, provincial congresses play a pivotal role, mirroring the National Congress’s functions but on a provincial level.
Election of National Office Bearers (NOBs): The National Congress serves as the stage for electing crucial leadership positions, including the President, National Treasurer, and Vice-Presidents. These individuals are entrusted with steering our union forward.
Nomination and Confirmation of the NEC: The appointment of the National Executive Committee (NEC) is a significant responsibility. The National Congress nominates and confirms the NEC, ensuring that our union is guided by individuals who are dedicated to our mission.
Policy Formulation: It’s here that we formulate and shape policy for the union. Through informed discussions and debates, we set the course for our advocacy efforts and actions in the years to come
Constitutional Amendments: The National Congress has the authority to make amendments to our Constitution. This ensures that our governing framework evolves to meet the changing needs and challenges faced by our members.
Financial Oversight: We review financial reports, auditor’s reports, and approve the union’s financial statements. Transparency and responsible financial management are at the core of our operations.
Matters of Union Interest: The National Congress provides a platform to address any matter deemed to be in the interests of the Union. It’s a forum for open dialogue and collective decision-making.
