According to Alwyn van Heerden of trade union Uasa, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) has reduced the number of jobs it plans to cut at its SA operations by 31% following talks with labor bodies.  The company apparently agreed with unions to lower its headcount by 4,138 at most, less than a target of 6,000 jobs announced in May.  Talks with unions about the reductions ended yesterday and, until the end of the month, the parties will work through applications for voluntary retrenchment packages and redeploy workers to existing vacancies.
